With the coming of September, the Senior Center is gearing up for Island Days. This is a marvelous an-nual event where businesses and community organi-zations give back to the Island. The Senior Center will be linking with Walgreens this year and have a booth at Carolina Beach Lake. We are always open to welcoming visitors and friends. Stop by and say, “Hello” and visit for a moment or two. The official date for Island Days this year is Sunday afternoon, September 29, 2013.

Here’s a name from the past. Rex O’Dell recently stopped at the Center and was pleasantly surprised with the improvements. He wishes to be remembered to all.

As always we remind you of our monthly PANCAKE BREAKFAST FUND RAISER on the first Saturday of each month. Breakfast includes pancakes, scram-bled eggs, sausage, coffee, and juice. Breakfast is served from 7:30-11 AM.
If the first Saturday in September or October is too busy for you, join us on the fourth Saturday at 6:30 PM for a Covered Dish Dinner and cards for those who wish to play.

On Sunday, October 5, the Senior Center has been rented to the organizing committee for the Carolina Half Marathon. They are looking for some help fix-ing, serving and cleaning up after refreshments for the runners. If you can help us, please notify Dee Barnes.

Gifts and contributions are graciously accepted for the siding project. Over the course of the years the present siding has deteriorated and needs to be re-placed asap. In advance, we thank you for your gifts

It won’t be long before new Board members will be elected. The Nominating Committee is in the process of filling a slate for this year’s elections.

Flu season will be upon sooner than we can image. Walgreens will be at the Senior Center offering flu shots on the following dates: September 16, Octo-ber 7, October 28. A representative from Wal-greens will be here at 11:00 AM to administer flu shots.

The Yarn Group will be starting again in Septem-ber. The start date has not been established. Check out the K. B. Hines blog or come to the Center so you can learn when that date is.

Here’s a couple of questions for you. Do you have a craft or a skill that you would be willing to teach or share with a small group? Would you consider starting a class for that special interest of yours? If the answer is “Yes” to both of those questions, please notify a Board member or stop at the Senior Center any Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday about lunchtime and inform someone of your interest.
